Got a chance to take a better look at it today and with better glasses (getting old sucks but beats the alternative!). After a small amount of fiddling I discovered that the barrel adjuster in the rear der had been unscrewed all the way out! That would definitely cause problems! Discovering this I removed the cable and frame to der noodle. I also changed out the 2 plastic ferrules for aluminum in one end of the noodle and the other at the end of the shifter cable. This only leaves whatever is in the shifter itself that could be another plastic ferrule. I haven't had a chance to ride it yet but hopefully this will fix the issue.

Next stupid question... This is a 2X front setup and I count 4 positions on the shifter. I believe that these are 2 regular shift and 2 de-rattle positions. Are all 4 positions supposed to be used or is it possible to not need one of both of the de-rattle positions?
