As for high park cycles. yeah, the guy has a veritable museum of parts and frames up in his rafters but good god he can be difficult to deal with. on a good day he's a nice and will take trades and stuff but if he's in a bad mood he can be a surly old coot. if you're looking to trade in old parts / frames i'd say sell them on ebay or craigslist because he won't give you any sort of reasonable deal. his frames seem expensive to me, but then again they are pretty high-end.
personally, i've found his frustrating to deal with (he built me a wheel that kept popping spokes) and so i don't go there anymore but you never know, he might have changes his ways.
you'd probably get a better deal (and service) at cavern.
Agreed - I got the impression that dealing with him is subject to his moodiness on a given day. Problem is, I'd like to get a frame of equivalent quality and italian-ness

There's something about an Italian bike built in SLX that makes it difficult to replace with anything other than an equally pretty Italian bike in SLX, and I imagine that Mr. Grumpy's got loads of 'em. I also have no idea how to price this thing - I've seen'em go built up with campy record stuff for up to $1200 on ebay, but I wouldn't begin to know how to price it as a frame and fork - another factor that inclines me to try to work a straight trade for something equivalent that fits. Wishful thinging maybe
