As the title suggests, I'm contemplating ordering a Specialized Tarmac SL7 Comp 105 Di2 tomorrow. Due to my country's challenging economic situation, with fluctuating exchange rates and rampant inflation, I've stumbled upon a no-interest financing option for this model at one of the distributors, effectively securing a lifetime deal (possibly ending up at around $4000 or even less if inflation persists, which I hope won't be the case).
Currently, I'm riding a 2014 Ridley Fenix Classic, which I've upgraded with Campagnolo Sciroco wheels, rim brakes, and the original SRAM Force 22 groupset. It has been a reliable companion for approximately 17000 miles since I purchased it. However, I'm now embarking on more structured training and participating in faster bunch rides. While I don't expect the new bike to miraculously boost my speed, I am shifting my priorities from pure comfort during long rides to also considering performance.
I'm curious to hear from anyone who has made a similar switch and how that experience went for them.
Here are my reasons (or perhaps excuses) for considering this upgrade:
- The Ridley is approaching its 10th year, and I'm concerned about the potential degradation of the frameset.
- Desire for an extended gear range (the Ridley currently has a 12-28 50/34 setup, which I could potentially address with a modest investment of less than $200).
- The allure of an electronic groupset.
- Wondering if a 2021 "racing" frame will provide equal or better riding comfort compared to my 2013 endurance-oriented one.
- The possibility for a future wheelset upgrade – I've never been entirely satisfied with the carbon + rim brake combination.
- Of course, the incredible "deal" aspect of this opportunity. To provide some context, we usually pay 20-30% more for higher-end bikes here due to customs, taxes, and other factors. However, the current situation and the specific promotion would mean I'm paying less than the listed price on the Specialized US website.
I apologize for the lengthy post, and I genuinely appreciate any help, insights, or advice!
Best regards,
