Pretty darn wide (I think you have your answer above) but you have to watch the deflection at a certain point. I'd be fine running 44s on them. After that I'd be wary of how the tire may deflect on hard downhill corners. I have done this with 19-20mm rims and 44s. I prefer how they feel on my 25mm rims but I do not go over 44mm tires.
