The "Tarik" device - Yes it is still there. Tarik Saleh has a Twenty with the same fork that I have and he used a piece of PVC pipe to use as a threadless headset spacer - I copied this - hence the "Tarik" device.

I just painted the PVC an aluminum silver color to make it look like an alloy rather than white plastic.

And yes - the PVC has been doing its job nicely for over two years - no probs. But someday - I would like to replace it with a proper bit of aluminum tubing.
