There is a warmness and fuzziness of using a bike specific tool at times. But hook spanners and pin spanners come in many different flavors and some googling will find some options that are cheaper than the McMaster-Carr and other industrial suppliers. Over the years I've bought a lot of them for the shops through McMaster through our purchase order processes because it is quicker than getting an Amazon or eBay purchase approved. But for my own use, I can be more frugal and use other avenues.
