I checked that screw already. It is in place and was snug. I'm not sure if there is a spacer to shorten the reach on this model. I'll have to check.
OK, you're right, there is a step in the area that the shifter housing rests against the bracket. The 105/Ultegra 9 speed which I am more familiar with doesn't have that step on the bracket.
