I don't believe this is correct. What I found when last I had a frame made we looked at the ductility of Reynolds 953 vs Reynolds 853 and it had a much higher elongation % than 853 therefor is less "brittle" as
elongation is a measure of ductility in metals, the plastic deformation it can take prior to failure.
