I have to watch how much non-railroad work I do lest I become ineligible for Railroad Retirement disability benefits should I ever need them.

One thing I do plan on doing is volunteering for a local organization called MANNA. It prepares and distributes free meals for seriously ill people in the city. Once I was finally allowed to eat in rehab, I was served a lot of slop. Fortunately, I had the technical and financial means to have food delivered. Really made me appreciate how important proper nutrition is to the healing process. MANNA has volunteer opportunities in the actual kitchen itself along with delivery opportunities. And it headquarters is maybe a 15 min. walk from my house. Even closer is the Le Cat Cafe, where I adopted my current buddy from. I'll bet it could use some help.
