This is my 1st bike in years. About to pick up from servicing at local bike shop. 1 problem, rear cantilever brakes were replaced with nonfunctioning brakes. Mechanic says there is no modern replacement and something about trying to flip springs with no luck. So it's my responsibility to search. He seemed pretty perplexed at the set up which scares me that I will begin collecting non compatible parts. Is there anything I should know or am I stuck searching for Shimano Deore XT cantilevers? And are there different sizes of these brakes to look out for? Also are the deer head different or are they all deer head? When I pick it up tomorrow I will be able to look at the original front brakes and can take a picture if needed.
