The recall covers roughly 680,000 cranksets that were sold in the U.S. from January 2012 to August 2023 for between $270 and $1,500, according to the CPSC.

Shimano’s massive recall of several series of its 11-speed Ultegra and Dura-Ace crankarms cost it $18 million in the second half of last year, the company revealed in its 2023 annual report. [PDF]
The bad news, of course, is that the long-delayed recall cost US $18.3 million.

There were countless articles written about this issue between probably 2019 and 2023. Forums filled with discussion, media articles about the issue and Shimano's denial, and an infamous instagram page dedicated to it too.
