In my previous racer-boy life, 40+ while sitting on the top tube was no big deal. One time, I hit 60 on a long 4-lane downhill during a race in Death Valley (the anxiety level was very high, but I pushed through). In my return to riding in the last 4+ years, it's been a slow progression to rebuild my confidence at speed, and the occasional 40 is getting more comfortable. That said, I'm a bit larger than you. I don't see a return to my previous envelope-pushing speeds, however. I have a greater respect for my personal structural integrity than I used to.
