I use it all the time, and by that I mean, many times a month. It honestly doesn't harm the paint. Of course if you left it on for a long time it could do some damage, but for a momentary wiping, not at all. Isopropyl alcohol though is the safest bet, though if there is a lot of oil or grease on it, I will up the game and use lacquer thinner. They do have to be used carefully though. I generally don't hesitate to use lacquer thinner sparingly, but never use acetone on any painted surface.
