Fully agree, FBinNY I do not recall if the axle originally had a different surface where the bearing rested against it, but there's a wear spot that doesn't look like it was as-intended.

My goal is to try to source a replacement freehub body, then examine how the axle is supposed to fit into the hub. The thru axle and QR endcaps did come from the manufacturer so they are designed to work with this particular hub. It's pretty obvious how all those parts go together but obviously I did something to trash the bearing that's fitted inside the freehub body.
