With my surgeon’s and PT’s OK, I got back on the bike within a week after my TKR (RIGHT) in late October 2023. Fortunately, before the surgery, the bone-on-bone condition wasn’t painful while riding…as long as I remained seated. But pedaling out of the saddle was out of the question. By the end of December, I tried it and happily discovered that it was no longer painful. It was very awkward, and weak, because I hadn’t done it in so long. But no pain. So, since then, on every ride I’ve been doing it more and more…mostly on inclines, or just for a burst of speed when starting up after a stop. And I have to say that it has really contributed to (re)strengthening the knee. I’m doing it for longer and longer spurts. My knee is strong, and it’s no longer awkward. — Dan
