Jen as you say you ride tri bikes all the time I would agree with
79pmooney as handling is important. As I have aged and arthritis found me my speeds have dropped, I stay out of traffic and I avoid fast declines so ugly stems have not been a threat to my handling and allow for infrequent use of my recumbent trike.
