Oh, and WD-40 (reg) is not a lube.
WD-40 (brand) does make a silicon lube.
I did a mud ride in the rain on my last ride. I wax with paraffin and ptfe. I ran through the gears the other day on the stand. No squeaks, no grittiness, and running smoothly.
Hard to beat that.
