Iím in my home town for a high school class reunion and, as usual, cruised the thrift stores and pawn shops for bikes. Iíve found some fun projects in this and other small towns that way. This time I found this 2001 Trek 6500 in a pawn shop for $70. The tires and tubes have been replaced but the rest of it looks original. The 3X9 Deore group set is in great shape, and the frame has mounts for disk calipers. It looks to me like the 6700 from that year used the same frame and had an option for disk brakes.

I cleaned it up, adjusted the derailleurs, lubed the chain, aired up the tires, and went for a ride on the multi-use path that runs behind our RV park. There are some paint dings that I think I can touch up and Iím going to rebuild the fork. Itís otherwise all in such good shape that Iím going to leave it stock.
