Not really, seeing as how plenty of metamorphic rocks (ex: serpentinite) come from the bottom of the ocean, specifically at divergent plate boundaries. The problem with your theory was that, while the heat there isn't too strong, there isn't nearly enough pressure to metamorph a slate into blueschist; of course, that's just one of the many reasons that you were wrong.
