Bikes: 1992 Koga Miyata Exerciser, 1996 Koga Miyata Adventure, 2019 Cannondale CAAD12, 2019 Cannondale Topstone

A small update from my Koga Miyata Adventure 1996 turned into a (more) modern road/gravel bike:

I really enjoy this bike and ride it all the time. I love riding it even more than my modern road and gravel bikes. Long story short: With this experience, I saw no point of keeping my modern Gravelbike (Cannondale Topstone) and sold it. I'm not the n+1 kind of guy, rather n-1, if possible
Using it mainly as a road bike, I soon noticed that the 44/28, 11-36 touring gearing is not optimal. I'd rather have a 46/30 11-30 or 11-32. I've ridden a lot with 50/34 and 46/30 and I slightly prefer 46/30 since I rarely need 50/11. If you're doing fast group rides or trying to beat some downhill records, the 50/11 might be useful, but for me 46/11 (=50/12) is enough.

Having sold my Cannondale but without a few expensive parts, it was time to upgrade the Adventure with the leftover parts.
  • Switched Fabric Scoop TI with Fabric Scoop Pro (Carbon) from my Cannondale, saved 60g
  • Switched Easton stem for Kalloy Uno, save 60g
  • Switched crankset for a Ultegra 6800 I still had around but not in use. But: the 50/34 chainrings were not good anymore and I wanted 46/30 anyway. So I bought the "bikingreen 46/30 chainrings" from ebay. Highly recommended! Great option if you want lower than normally possible gearing on 4- and 5-arm Shimano cranks. Top quality CNC chainrings made in Taiwan-75 EUR incl. shipping. Quality is great and shifting seems to be even better than with the original rings. Ultegra 6800 + 46/30 + BB = 750g, old crankset incl BB was 960g, 210g saved.
  • Switched Panaracer tires with GP5000 STR 32mm from my Cannondale (new owner wanted gravel tires), adding Ridenow TPU tubes...more grams saved.
  • removed unused bolts (around 25g)
  • Switched SRAM 11-36 for Ultegra 11-32 cassette (90g saved)

New bike weight incl. Ultegra pedals: 10.6kg

One day, I might upgrade the Aksium wheelset (1800g) - 200-300g less is possible. Maybe I buy a better wheelset for my CAAD12 and move the DT SWISS P 1800 to the Koga (save 200g)
