If you are using a old worn out pair of scissors, then I might can see you taking a long time and having trouble cutting through them. Even if they aren't dull scissors, the pivot bolt needs to be snug so the blades don't spread apart in the plane they should be fixed in.

These are what I'm using, and it's only a minute or two to make one complete cut along the approximately 1,953mm of circumference.
