I am 3 weeks into healing from a bike crash, just me, 2 broken ribs, 3 small fractures in my neck, and a severely bruised and strained right shoulder.
Two of the neck fractures, C1, were unstable, ER had me transported 120 miles, where I spent 24 hours in a trauma center with more tests, images, examinations and questions than I knew could be done in a 24 hour period. I was quite fortunate it was not considerably worse.
I started walking my neighbor the next day, now doing 3-4 miles daily, 2 walks. My legs were definitely feeling the change. I ride 5000 miles a year, but do not walk that much.
Strong legs from cycling have been an asset in every recovery I have been through, which includes 4 spinal surgeries. I like walking, but I like riding a bike a whole lot more.
