I agree with this. I've had 3 bikes in a row with disk brakes and I must say that I'm far from impressed. I never had anywhere near this much trouble with rim brakes. If anything at all gets on them... no brakes! I'm in Denver metro so I've pretty much always got something on them so I have no brakes a lot. I think I could oil my old rim brake pads up and still have at least some braking action. So that's a huge safety issue and major CON against them for me. I don't think they work as well when it's raining heavy either. Rotors wear out way faster than rims. I don't ever recall having to replace a rim because the brake pads wore it out! Pads also wear out about 10 times faster and cost at least twice as much and are more of a pain in the donkey to replace and adjust. I don't ever recall getting rocks or other debris lodged between my rim and brake pads. If I go through any serious mud or cross a small stream, chances are I'll have to. I still have an old Iron Horse HT frame that has V-brake bosses on it and I'm going to dig it out of storage and put it together with some decent brakes on it. I'm sure I can sell this fancy disk brake FS thing for enough to do a nice job with it and not be cruising around wondering if my brakes are going to work because I know they will.
