Unnecessary with a coaster brake.
I love a coaster brake. Memories of skidding home sideways in a cloud of dust. And it goes so well with a kickstand!

As far as the rear brake, I was just keeping the options open if I decide to ditch the Nexus. I had a Raleigh comfort bike back in the mid 90s with the same hub. No complaints.
