PenVelo is a bike club based on the San Francisco Peninsula, riding mostly in the San Mateo - Los Altos area. I'm pretty sure I saw Carlo or Luca riding a Simonetti frame. When I was riding with PenVelo back around 1999-2001, they were already in their 50s or 60s at least. At that time, on PenVelo's weekend club rides, Carlo led a small group that split off from the racers, and we'd ride farther and at a somewhat slower pace. If you flatted, Carlo and Luca were almost like a pit crew, getting your wheel off, swapping in your spare tube and pumping it up in just a few minutes.
He was born in late 1930's or early 1940's so it was more then likely him. He was probably riding with my dad John he was a tiny bit taller then Carlo and black hair I think I have a photo of them and their bikes. But yes when ever I go see him in Boston he would tell me about how a big group of his buddy's would ride every weekend.
