Starting to ride again, but with arthritic knees
Hi All,
I've been a member here for a long time, but I’ve been away for about 10 yrs. In 2014 I bought a Trek 2.1 Madone, with SRAM components, it’s a nice intermediate bike. But at that same time we were making the move to rural Indiana, so things happen and I put the bike up and haven't road it since. I just pulled it out of the poll barn, cleaned the dust off it and to it to the local bike shop to have it checked out, adjustments and lubed. Well in the last ten yrs I developed bad arthritis in both knees to the point they really need to be replaced. I want to get back in good shape and lose 30 lbs, as the knee replacement will go much better. I have a stationary bike and when I ride that at a cadence and resistant that’s comfortable my knees don’t hurt. But I realize a stationary bike and a real bike can be very different. So I figure who better to ask for advice about just starting to ride again with bad knees than you guys and gals that have overcome physical injuries and ride again. So in light of all this, is there any advice ya’ll can give a 72 yr old guy with bum knees just starting to ride again?
Thanks Much
Paul
