As I remember, early '90s Bridgestone MTBs used 7-speed freewheels or Shimano freehubs. As for cage length, the guy who's actually seen the bike can probably make the best call. And Deore is nice, but Alivio works well, too. And don't forget the comparable Microshift models.
The bike shop seems to be saying that the replacements they can get are new and not vintage.
This is from the '80s, not 90s. Light Action came on 6 speed bikes at the time.
