If your quads aren't happy, you did the right thing. That's the whole point. You might be surprised how much that'll help your riding if you keep at it. The thing to do is to hit the weight room and lift heavy after the spin class. I did that until that gym went out of business. Worked great, made big gains on the road. I've had 4 gyms I've used go out of business while I was a member. Getting better on the bike is a largely a matter of seeking discomfort. I've found very few women to be annoying, magnificent works of art created by the gods that they are. Mashallah! as the Muslims say.
All of the above, been there, still do that. Now that I’m officially a retired senior citizen though, I find myself less willing to just push through the pain, unless I’m training for something, like the El Tour de Tucson.
