Can't help it. I've got to be Leisesturm, and go off the script. The o.p. 'may' eventually want a bike, or to rehab their bike in the longer term, but in the shorter term they need a gym membership or Home Gym and/or one or more of: Treadmill; Rowing Machine (Concept 2 or Water Row or Hydrow, not much else out there); Elliptical Machine. Those are what will tone and strengthen and burn calories. It will take a couple of seasons for a returnee to cycling to be able to use it as an exercise device. In fact, in most parts of the country, cycling flat out sucks for that purpose, mainly because you are spending more of your time and Watts, watching out for hazards (not all hazards have drivers in them) than getting into Zone 2. I can tell from their question that the o.p. needs this advice, because they are in the grip of the fever to get back out there and they have forgotten what it's really like.
Also, a recent post mentioned Bike Nashbar as a source for clothing. They were that. Are they still? I'm pretty sure they merged with Performance Bike years ago. Did someone resurrect the brand? Anyway, I don't think any of these sites can tell a returning cyclist what's hot and what's not. Honestly, that's what we're here for. Sorry to say though, while you've been on hiatus it's become gauche to actually want to look like a cyclist when out for a hammer. I don't know why, but shorts, bibs, jerseys (especially jerseys) are looked on with considerable contempt by a vocal segment of the community. Be prepared for blowback to your honest inquiries about anything made with Lycra™.
