I'm an old geezer and love 3X9's, close spaced cassette and a bit of selective sizing on the chain rings.
It gives me ranges for-
1. Steep hills/severe headwinds
2. Flat
3. Really good tailwinds.
1X is for lemmings and people too lazy too think. There's too many posts w/ people having trouble with 1X groups to claim simplicity. My triples don't have problems!
Electronic shifting? It's a bicycle for God's sake!
