Swapping out the Maillard-Merde axle assemblies (including the cones) for Wheels Manufacturing / Maeda / Shimano / Campagnolo axles and cones might be a good work-around - particularly if you have extra hubs in the parts bin. You'd need to do some test-fitting, though, maybe some axle trimming with the Dremel tool. Bearings should be new, and grade-25 for best results.
