SunXCD has direct lineage to SunTour but they are more interested in sort of retro stuff.

Me personally if not going vintage and I had the ability to put a 9 speed cassette on the back would add a chain and cassette and a 9 speed shifter set and run that just fine and have a couple extra gears that will be enjoyable. Same old derailleurs and crank and I have a feeling the chain and cassette would need replacement anyway so it is a perfect excuse. You won't lose anything but gain a little more and you won't spend much more than you would on the same set up 7 speed maybe $20-50
I saw some Attack thumb shifters but they were 8 speed and I don't know if they are Shimano compatable.
Attack
I also realize that I was getting suntour with sunrace confused. now that I'm not confused anymore yes it makes sense that suntour went out in the early 90s. I haven't seen their cranks on any bikes with fat tubes.
As far as Sunrace goes I don't know much about them, What do you think about using these
sunrace

BTW I will look out for the 310s
