Thanks, all! I've been biking with my current Schwinn around Alaska (on roads) and so far she's done well. I've gotten some mixed opinions, but the large majority of people who have looked at her tell me I can tour with her with the upgrades that have been made. I don't mind a little extra work when it comes to pedaling or finding suitable routes. But when someone tells me no (which is rare but as I can see in this thread it does happen), I can't help but think about that. I have been considering looking around for a Voyageur or LeTour. Issue for me with finding a secondhand bicycle (I'm just not going to buy new) is that I'm a tiny woman, 4'10" so my options are limited to very small frames (47cm), which can be hard to find. I happened to come across someone selling a Voyageur on ebay that has a 47cm frame, but I feel like they're asking way too much considering a lot of work still needs to be done to the bike (I think they were in the middle of a rebuild). The frame is in good condition though, but I can't pay what they're asking for it. I keep stopping in at nonprofit shops hoping to find something - that's where I found my current Schwinn. I absolutely LOVE riding it! (Love it so much I got her tattooed on my leg!)
