Smelly, I typically give some light grease to everything that screws into something. I also give a very light greasing to mated surfaces (seat stems, hubs to drops and such.) Even with handle bars, I find that giving the surfaces a through cleaning, lightly greased (I use Park Tool's Polylube), bolt threads greased, most always eliminates creaking and such. Also better able to detach parts from each other and helps avoid bonding.
