the better ride would be going over Scapoose/Vernonia pass via the gravel and some pave CZ Trail, to Vernonia, then taking the Banks/Vernonia Linear trail to the Banks area, then on into Aloha by various routes.
there are some camping opportunities along the way too.
none of the gravel sections are too rough... i ride them on 32mm touring/commuter tires, and 35mm CX tires
an experienced rider will do fine.
Vernonia has good eats.. The Black Bear for burgers, a Mexi burrito trailer right next to it, and a new pizza joint has opened up too!
there's a Teryaki place in Banks that serves good lunches.
lots of bikes ride in the North Plains/West Union area, so the drivers are alert to us.
pick up Corn pass, head south, and you're in Aloha... there a bike route along that section of Corn Pass.
if your a good climber, i'd take Rocky Point, then skyline to NW Moreland or Logie Trail towards Helvetia... World Famous Greasy Bacon Cheese Burgers at the Helvetia tavern.. be hungry.
Logie Trail on the Hwy 30 side of the ridge is stupid-steep and Features some REALLY tight switchbacks, and ZERO shoulder.
