After trying several bars on my brother's upright bike, I think hokiefyd and maddog34 have a lot of insight in this matter.

I tried:
Soma Clarence - my favorite, although it lacks a forward position, to me the mild sweep is just right
Velo Orange Tourist - medium sweep and second favorite
Soma Oxford - too swept for me
Soma Mustache - ditto
Nitto butterfly - liked the position variability, but didn't like any of the positions as well as the Clarence
Soma Osprey - like the Clarence, but silly-wide (to me)

Those goofy-looking Crazy Bars might be just the ticket, for a mild sweep and the extra forward position. I guess that if I can get used to butterfly bars looks, I could get used to the crazy bar too.

My brother's upright bike is great for just hopping on and riding with minimal forethought. I really like that aspect of it. I asked him what he thought of it when he visited, and he answered simply "It's perfect." (We are the same dimensions - we can even wear each other's shoes.)

But for a longer ride, my old racing bike with the drop bars raised to saddle height is still my most comfortable, just because I can change positions.
