Despite my experiences with them, I tend to be hopeful. My hope is Dahon management takes a lesson from Shimano, for example. Takes stock of their strengths and weaknesses and plots new strategies. Their prices are too high. Zizzo Liberte, I'm betting, is cutting heavily into sales of Dahon Mariners. If Zizzo debuts a disc bike, Dahon is even more toast. The Mariner D8 and Launch D8 need to be no greater than USD $600. If Dahon goes the other direction with premium frames, like carbon, or aluminum with all dressed welds, others can do that as well, and both material and labor costs are cheap over there. Dahon needs to convert from a premium pricing model to a value-pricing model. And also to provide good customer service after the sale, like I'm hearing Zizzo does, while still selling direct (Zizzo does not sell through dealers, correct?). Dahon may need to do the same model, or if going through dealers, treat them well, as dealers now have more choice.
