Agreed. With thinner lubes, I would get oil splatter on the inner rim circumference. As liquid lubes go, my current chain lube of 75W-90 gear lube, one drop at each pin after cleaning, is fairly neat and little splatter, but I do get sludge buildup at the pulleys, the on-bike chain cleaner does not remedy. But I'm going back to wax when I replace the cassette and chain. Super clean, I last used on my road racer for that. I just never imagined it had superior chain durability to oil, even cheap candle wax. But ZFC tests say it is, and nobody makes money off endorsing candle wax, so I figure it's gotta be true.
