I would expect him to at least announce his presence. I'm not really sure when he got there and where he came from, but I had probably been on that stretch for close to a mile before I noticed him. I mean, I'm not threatening for gold, but I'm clipping along at a pretty decent 20+mph pace. He was likely faster and should have given the courteous "on your left" and passed. Or when I sped up, he should have hung back. But to match pace and still not say something puts off a seriously creeper vibe.

I believe it is for a complete stranger.

edit: Exception: Unless one's full tri-bike, skinsuit and booties have a team logo, because nobody is supposed to be able to draft 'pros in training'.

Another pain is kitted out folks coming slowly from behind, passing me, then in less than 20-30m they slow to a pace just under what I am steadily spinning.
I agree.

As for me, I was wearing a simple jersey and bike shorts. My bike is an older aluminum frame Cervelo with some 404s, so respectable but not pretentious.
