5a) source a 126mm HG freehub, which allows you to run a modern HG cassette (minus 1 or 2 cogs)

I went through the same exercise a short while earlier while putting together my Miyata 610. I ended up with Shimano 105 1055 hubs laced to Kinlin XR26T rims.


Note that the FH1055 came in 126mm/ 7 speed HG configuration while the FH1056 was 130mm/8 speed. Other 126mm HG hubs include the RSX FH-A410, 600 tricolor FH6401, RX100 FH-A550. I am running the asymmetric Kinlin XR26RT in the back. These Kinlin rims are also tubeless ready. You didn't ask about tubeless, but you should have
