whilst I would hesitate to recommend that anybody exceeds the manufacturer‘s recommended max weight limits, I am 100% sure I have been over the maximum on this, with two panniers and me on board, without issues.
Panniers centered over the back wheels or front, don't put more bending load on the frame that rider weight does.
Add a homemade "deltech" cable from amsteel or kevlar line. Dahon's own Deltech increases weight capacity from 231 to 300 lbs AND doubles the warranty to 10 years.
