A constant flow of water will keep a chain lubed, as well. Here in the PNW, that describes winter. An inventive fellow might devise a mechanism that collects rainwater and deposits it directly on the chain whilst riding, eliminating the need for expensive and environmentally unfriendly petroleum based lubricants entirely. In dry months, ordinary tap water delivered from a small container would complete the life hack.
