Took it out last night on a 60 minute shakedown gravel ride on the Columbia trail. Found a rattly rear fender. It was so bad I had to stop and jam a piece of thin bark in between the chain stay and the fender. That springy bolt thing is great for getting the tire off, but not so great for securing the fender well. I'll add some chain stay protector tape there later.
Other than that, the ride went great. The 42mm tires look much bigger from the drivers seat. They're still pretty fresh and pick up all sorts of pebbles, flinging them through the thin aluminum fenders. Not a pleasant sound, but on the bright side, I don't need a bell to alert other trail users I'm coming. Maybe some electrical tape under the fenders to quiet the sound and protect them?
I think I'm ready to tape the bars...
And I just realized, I can lower the front derailleur now. Maybe back to the Shimano 600? Or do I put the original Compe-V on there and get used to pulling up for lower gear? I don't like that the default is the high gear if the shifter lets go. That reminds me: I need to figure out a way to keep the shifters adjusted. This version of the Suntour power ratchet shifters does not have the D-ring tension adjuster. You need a screwdriver.
