yes - always a treat to spot them
not common - but on one ride earlier this summer spotted a number of them … in the cuyahoga valley (OH) … more that day than all other rides combined
There is a bird sanctuary in the valley near here. There are lots of water birds there. I worked with a guy who had a Koi pond in his yard and the fish started disappearing and he thought it might be his dog. He set up a camera and caught a blue heron stealing a fish.
Later, he took a picture of the heron sunning itself on a power pole. I told him it looked like a pterodactyl. Huge.
