Noodling around Manhattan today, I encountered 2 closures.
The more consequential is in northern Manhattan south of the-street-with-a-name-Bike-Forum's-autocensor-pruriently-won't-allow but it's in the valley between Ft Tryon Park and Inwood Hill Park.
I approached - as I usually do -
heading west on Riverside Drive. There's a short flight of stairs between the north- and southbound Henry Hudson Parkway lanes. No signage. Zilch. Nothing. It's a secret. At the top of the stairs, I was greeted with
There's absolutely NO SIGNAGE. NONE.
Reportedly (from others riding bikes), the closure continues south to the George Washington Bridge.
There was fairly good reporting about this a few years ago. The reporting included loud and valid complaints noting the westernmost southbound lane of the Henry Hudson Pkwy could have been closed to motor vehicles and repurposed as a pedpath. I thought the closure and ensuing work was scheduled and completed a year ago.
I biked this segment end-of-July 2024 with no problems. Today, it was closed.
The other closure is more cosmetic than consequential: northern end of the Inwood Hill soccer fields adjacent to the Hudson River will be closed into Summer 2025:
This is west of the Amtrak R-o-W / everything north of the bridge over Amtrak.
