I decided on a route that would take me towards the south part of town today. I took Woodlawn until its end at SC 10 and almost immediately crossed over onto Briarwood, which is a great gateway road to all sorts of interesting rides. Today I opted for the shortest route, taking a left on Mt. Moriah Church Road, getting my first dose of kudzu for the day.
I crossed 221 and took little, largely forgotten Feed Mill Road to Rock House Road, another gateway route, and again took the shorter option and turned towards town. When I reached the end of the 225 Bypass, the white bird of duty perched on my left shoulder and urged me to turn left and go home - but the black bird of my desire appeared on my right and said, "Norris Road awaits thee." So I turned Maitres Jacques
a droit and crossed US 25 South and headed down Scotch Cross Road towards Ninety Six.
Norris Road appeared unannounced on the left - if you don't know it's there you'll never find it. I stopped for pix a couple of times and managed the gravel and red clay on 28mm tires with greater ease than I expected. Norris Road is a kudzu fest, as you can see -
- but soon I was back on the old Canadian Mist Highway making my way back into town. I felt frisky and made better time than normal up Florida Avenue and got onto the main rail-trail and headed for downtown.
Once there I did a quick spin around by the fountain, but no one was there, so I worked my way over to West Cambridge Park and took the unpaved rail trail back towards home.
I wound up with 26 miles for the morning, and a strong desire for a vat of coffee and something to eat.
