On the other hand, I work road construction and was in a work zone with one lane two way flagger controlled traffic. Got hit with a full large size beer can square in the chest. Knocked me out for a couple of minutes. Employer insisted that I go to hospital in ambulance and ended up with a couple of cracked ribs. Still bothers me twenty years later when I am breathing hard.

For some reason, they don't seem to cover that part of the job much in flagger certification classes.
"I don't care if my sandbag fortification isn't crashworthy. I'm keeping it!"
Obligatory cycling content: I've noticed that some flaggers are rather good about letting cyclists get a head start on other traffic in a one lane two way zone, especially if there's enough lateral room for riding alongside other traffic.
