I use it just like the side mirror on a car, quick glance at it once in a while to keep track of what's going on behind.
I don't have drop bars, though. Don't how it'd fit on those. And I run 2" tires which must help.
I have a Myrricle on my bike. It has drop bars and 23 mm tires that I run at 90/100 psi. Vibration is not an issue. The plastic mirrors with flexible mounts do vibrate too much for my taste, and I found glasses or helmet mount mirrors distracting. I use it for "situational awareness", I look at it much more often than I would look back. I do check with a look under my arm before moving left. I feel naked when riding a bike without a mirror.
