I stayed on that for over two years before I started putting meats back in my diet. I'm working on getting back to that meat free diet now that my wife is more onboard with it and her lipids and blood pressure now have her doctor threatening her with drastic measures.
I still used sugars in my bottles and took sugary snacks on my ride back then which all averaged in the higher output zones. I still will today and in the future.
I bought my wife a pasta machine = fresh whole wheat pasta, absolutely yummy food. Being hippies, our rice is usually brown, though with Oriental dishes white is the usual. We don't eat that much rice anyway. We've been "meat free"

for 50 years. Agree that it works well. We supplement with whey protein though and eat fish and seafood. Our blood work looks really good.
