I'd have to think a cool waxed chain ought to perform like a wet-lubed chain in operation, just not attract as much dry-ish detritus in the riding. Chains are meant to be flexible after all, right?
when I install a waxed chain, I run it up and down the cassette once on the stand. It chatters the first couple of turns of the crank, but then the stiff joints loosen up and shed their excess wax flakes (all over my drive-side chainstay). That’s it
